Advisers urge their peers focus on clients rather than money

Advisers say that an “emotional connection” with their clients in order to conduct successful planning meetings.

Speaking at the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment's 2023 Financial Planning Conference today (4 October), Acumen director David Gow urged advisers to "commit to the ongoing journey" of their clients. "Throughout all the meetings, I am looking for an emotional connection," Gow told delegates. "Advisers need to realise that the job is about the person before the money." He added: "I want the client to understand that I am helping them. I ask them during the meeting how they feel. That is the most important thing I can do as an adviser."
