The changes announced in the 2014 Budget hailed the end of capped drawdown for all. But Claire Trott asks is it really the right move?

Anyone currently in capped drawdown will now be able to take flexible withdrawals from their pension funds without any reference to age or fund size from April 2015. But this is not the full story. Anyone taking benefits in excess of the pension commencement lump sum will have their annual allowance restricted to £10,000 per annum going forward. However, for anyone in capped drawdown at 5 April 2015 that continues to withdraw income from their pension fund under the capped drawdown rules, will keep their £40,000 annual allowance going forward.
