Deputy PM Rayner remains in post after £40k stamp duty error based on tax advice

Deputy PM refers herself to ministerial standards adviser amid ongoing scrutiny

Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner has admitted she failed to pay the correct amount of stamp duty on the purchase of her second home, blaming “incorrect” advice for the error, Sky News reported.

She told Sky News that she had considered resigning over the row and has now referred herself to the independent adviser on ministerial standards. This has come after a report in The Daily Telegraph which alleged she avoided £40,000 in stamp duty on a Hove flat after her name was removed from the deeds of another property in Greater Manchester.
