SIPPs are 'gateway drug to bad investments' - steelworkers' solicitor

Self-invested personal pensions (SIPPs) are the "gateway drug to bad investments", Clarke Willmott solicitor Philippa Hann has warned.

Hann, who is representing a number of British Steel workers who transferred their pensions with Active Wealth UK, told delegates at Pension Debate III of her reservations about the pensions wrapper. "SIPPs are a place where people can have most of their money," she said. "They don't necessarily have it in their ISAs, or have large amounts of cash set aside elsewhere." She added: "If individuals have tens of thousands or pounds or even hundreds of thousands of pounds it is going to be in their SIPP, and therefore the ‘bad guys' want to get to that money.
