MPs bid to end 'alpha-male' culture in financial services

The "alpha-male" culture at some financial services firms is the overwhelming reason why women do not want to take on senior roles in the industry, MPs have reported.

A report from the Treasury Committee, Women in Finance, suggested steps such as assessing bonuses against clear criteria and removing the stigma attached to flexible working to help tackle the problem. It said in some organisations, it is perceived men argue more forcefully for bonuses than women, which can result in higher rewards for men and acts as a deterrent for women.
