FSA's aggressive stance scares off bank job applicants

Almost one in 10 applications for top jobs in large financial services firms, including banks, have been shelved since the FSA began to vet candidates for senior management positions.

Of 174 applicants for roles with "significant influence", including finance director, chair and group chief executive, 15 applicants bowed out before receiving a formal decision from the financial regulator. Figures obtained by law firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain (RPC) under the Freedom of Information Act show that 12 candidates withdrew their applications after being quizzed by the FSA over issues relating to their "necessary skills, experience and integrity" for the role.
