Mortgage endowment complaints down a third - FOS

Mortgage endowment complaints still formed the largest piles on desks at the Financial Ombudsman Service, but they're down a third on last year.

The FOS’s annual review of personal finance disputes for 2006/7 – published today – shows the ombudsman looked at 46,134 new mortgage endowment cases, just under half of the total number of complaints 94,392 received. However, the FOS says while this amounts to 175 mortgage cases every day, results from 2005/6 show it was dealing with 250 a day. The survey shows banking disputes are now foremost on the agenda, increasing by 47%, while insurance complaints are also up 10%, although with a 21% decrease in cases involving investments.
