PA Awards 2025: Why MyFolio Index came out top as Best Risk Targeted Range of Funds

Aberdeen Investments Senior Investment Director and Head of Managed & Model Solutions Justin Jones shares what sets MyFolio Index apart following its Best Risk Targeted Range of Funds award win at the Professional Adviser Awards 2025.

The value of investments, and the income from them, can go down as well as up and an investor may get back less than the amount invested.

Can you give a brief overview of your risk-targeted range and what you offer advisers and their clients?

MyFolio is designed to make multi-asset investing cost-effective and accessible through a clear, risk-targeted approach. Each portfolio is aligned to one of five defined risk levels, helping advisers match clients with investments that suit their risk appetite and long-term objectives.

Launched in 2010, the MyFolio family initially comprised MyFolio Market, MyFolio Managed (now Core), and MyFolio Multi-Manager. Our offering has evolved in response to adviser and client feedback.

Today our five distinct ranges provide comprehensive, risk-rated solutions across active, passive, and ESG strategies. In 2019 we added MyFolio Index, a range offering low-cost passive exposure. This was followed by MyFolio Enhanced ESG in 2020, and MyFolio Enhanced ESG Index in 2022, reflecting growing demand for sustainable investing.

The £15.1billion1 MyFolio suite helps investors gain exposure to a spectrum of asset classes from equities to infrastructure while benefiting from our unique active asset allocation approach.

One of the first fund families to be risk-mapped to tools like Dynamic Planner and Defaqto, MyFolio is widely available on all platforms, aligning with advisers' financial planning processes and supporting suitability-led advice.

A core part of Aberdeen's UK proposition, MyFolio offers advisers and their clients a transparent, scalable, disciplined route to long-term investment growth and outcome delivery.

How has the range evolved over the past 12 months?

Over the past year, MyFolio has seen several important enhancements, reflecting our commitment to delivering value and clarity for advisers and clients.

A key development was the update of both ESG ranges to align with the FCA's Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR), finalised in late 2024. As part of this, the ESG investment approach was refreshed, and both ranges were renamed to reflect their classification as ‘Unlabelled with material sustainable characteristics' under the new framework.

In April 2025, MyFolio Managed was rebranded as MyFolio Core, with a reduced and capped OCF (ongoing charges figure). The change also broadened the range's investment scope, allowing for a blend of active and passive strategies, including external managers.

Most recently, in July 2025, the MyFolio Market range was merged into MyFolio Index, consolidating our passive offerings and extending lower, capped charges to existing investors.

Throughout these developments, risk levels and strategic asset allocations remain unchanged, ensuring continuity. These updates reinforce MyFolio's position as a trusted, risk-targeted solution for multi-asset investing.

What is important when communicating with advisers and reporting on the range and how has this changed over the past 12 months?

Clear, consistent communication has always been central to the success of MyFolio. Our dedicated microsite continues to be a key resource, offering advisers monthly updates via the ‘Lookthrough' reports, which provide full portfolio holdings, commentary, and analysis.

Over the past 12 months, we've strengthened our adviser engagement through a mix of digital and in-person channels. We've recently concluded a nationwide roadshow and will be back on the road meeting advisers face-to-face again in September.

In addition, our live quarterly calls remain well-attended, offering timely insights into portfolio updates and market views. These sessions are vital for keeping advisers informed and confident in their client conversations.

As the regulatory and market landscape evolves, so too does our approach—ensuring advisers have the tools, transparency, and support they need to deliver suitable, risk-targeted investment solutions for their clients.
