Last week I wrote that the £2.7bn Evelyn Partners/Natwest deal sets the stage for more major acquisitions, and this week we saw another big one play out, this time with private equity backing the business.

Stone Point Capital edged out rivals, reported to have included Bain Capital, to snap up Amber River. The deal value was undisclosed, but reports have suggested a price tag in the region of £900m. PA published a timely article this week on what PE is looking for in financial advice firms in 2026. Apparently, it's becoming all about ‘cash-flow plus people', which I have to admit was a new term for me, consultants and M&A specialists told PA.
