Paraplanning as an industry has evolved hugely over the past 10 to 15 years and is now a career in its own right. But, Sarah Giles asks, why is the supply so limited and what can we do as an industry to help overcome this?

A good paraplanner is worth their weight in gold, carrying out research, writing reports and providing analytical support for clients and financial planners. More experienced paraplanners can also provide technical expertise on areas such as tax and legislation, with the ability to question and ensure the advice is correct. Some are also now taking on an increasingly client-facing role. However, or perhaps because of this, recruiting experienced technical paraplanners is a challenge and the lack of candidates is an issue recognised across the industry.
