Telling people you are a journalist can provoke a pretty strong reaction, but we in the media are used to being viewed with some suspicion.

I would have thought anyone involved in banking has also been taking some flak at dinner parties over the past couple of years, and with good reason you might say. However, I was surprised by a recent thread on social forum IFA Life where a number of advisers admitted they were embarrassed to use the label ‘IFA'. One adviser even went as far as to say describing yourself as an IFA is akin to saying ‘I'm an Acid-Bath Murderer' at a networking meeting. Part of the issue appears to stem from the fact all advisers are often lumped into the catch-all ‘IFA' category, even if they do not off...
