Reality TV 'finfluencers' sentenced

Seven social media influencers, or ‘finfluencers’, have been sentenced over their roles in the promotion of an unauthorised foreign exchange trading scheme.

All seven of the individuals, among them personalities from reality TV shows The Only Way is Essex (TOWIE) and Love Island, had pleaded guilty to one count of issuing unauthorised financial promotions. Sentences were handed down at Southwark Crown Court. The combined following of the individuals' Instagram accounts was 4.5 million, according to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
