Junior minister reiterates no-change stance on APR and BPR proposals

In response to MP’s ‘devastating consequences’ warning

A junior minister has reiterated that the government has no plans to make changes to proposed Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR) reforms.

Speaking in a Westminster Hall debate on Tuesday (28 October), exchequer secretary to the Treasury Dan Tomlinson said the decision to reform APR and BPR from next April "was not one the government took lightly". This was in response to MP Carla Lockhart's warning that the proposals will have "devastating consequences" on family farms in the UK. The policy, first announced in the Autumn Budget to widespread dismay from farmers across the country, was left untouched in Reeves' Spring Statement earlier this year.
