Advisers risk losing next-generation clients as 'engagement gaps' emerge

Survey finds investors value emotional reassurance and family engagement

Family engagement plays a key role in retaining clients, according to research from Vanguard’s Advisory Research Centre (ARC).

The Client Connect: Vanguard Advice Survey 2025, based on responses from more than 1,000 advised investors and 200 UK financial advisers, found that one in four clients (24.4%) who leave their adviser do so because of neglected relationships, more than those who leave due to poor investment results (15.8%). Only 3.8% of advisers report meeting the children of their clients frequently, despite 28% of investors expecting their children to continue the adviser relationship.
