FCA urged to 'think again' on targeted support annuity rules

Regulator’s MoneyHelper signpost criticised as a ‘real limit’

Industry commentators have urged the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to “think again” about “simply signposting” targeted support consumers to MoneyHelper’s annuities comparison tool.

In the regulator's targeted support framework, firms offering targeted support will not be able to expressly refer to a particular annuity in client conversations and must signpost consumers to MoneyHelper's comparison tool. Chapters Financial director and Chartered financial planner Keith Churchouse said this may be one example of the "real limits" of targeted support. "It won't suit all, and many may still be looking for an advised proposition at the end of this process," he said. "Watch this space."
