FOS complaints rise 49% as investment disputes surge

Over 140,000 cases were lodged in H2 2024

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) received more than 140,000 complaints in the second half of 2024, underlining growing pressures across financial services, including the investment and life and pensions sectors.

Between July and December 2024, the FOS received 141,846 complaints, marking a 49% increase from 95,349 in the same period the year before. The figures revealed: Investments: 2,587 new complaints were received, an 11% increase  from 2,311 in the second half of 2023 Decumulation, life and pensions: 4,345 complaints were made, up approaching 9% from 3,996 General insurance and pure protection: 22,075 complaints were lodged, a fall of just over 3% from the 22,845 received in the same period the previous year Overall, 33% of complaints were upheld in consumers' favour during H2 ...
