Industry against govt sponsoring financial reviews once a decade

Survey respondents say the grant could be a waste of time and money

The government should not assist members of the public with a grant towards having a financial review once a decade, the advice industry says.

Last week, we surveyed 134 advisers for PA Asks, 49% of whom were against the idea saying it would be "pointless" and "a waste of time and money". "The grant would inevitably be small and a pain to claim," one respondent said. Another worried the idea might tarnish the public's perception of advice. "The industry incurs significant expenses and the general public need to understand advice is not free," they said. "The regulatory costs are enormous and are funded from the charges on products."
