Wayne Tucker discusses his experiences as a black financial adviser

The prominence of the Black Lives Matter movement brought about by the tragic death of George Floyd has forced those in the business community to ask what they are doing to combat racism. And as companies ramp up their diversity initiatives, the human impact of societal biases is becoming clearer as more people from racial minorities voice their experiences. Claire Tyrrell speaks to financial adviser Wayne Tucker about how being black influenced his career and how the recent movement has affected him.

For Lighthouse IFA Wayne Tucker the path into financial advice was not as smooth as many of his peers. Though Tucker knew he wanted to be an adviser at aged 14, it was not until he was 30, six years into a career in finance, when he was promoted to the role. Spending the early years of his career working in sales at Lloyds Bank, he saw others progress much faster to adviser roles.
