APFA in talks with FOS over 'inconsistent' case verdicts

The Association of Professional Financial Advisers (APFA) has arranged a meeting with the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) to discuss what it believes is "inconsistent" adjudicating by the body when resolving complaints against advisers.

APFA director-general Chris Hannant said the organisation's adviser members were concerned about the regularity with which FOS decision makers side with consumers on adviser complaints. He said the Ombudsman seemed to be looking to make awards to consumers and its decision making was inconsistent, meaning similar cases achieved different outcomes depending on who from the FOS adjudicated.  "Members want confidence in the system and that it is a fair process," he said.
