The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has upheld four complaints against whisky cask and gold investment firm Cap Group, ruling that its website misled consumers through inaccurate review claims, implied media endorsements and inadequate risk disclosures for unregulated investments.
The ruling, published today (8 July), stated that the ASA investigated four complaints, all of which were upheld. The watchdog found Cap Group website claimed it had 27,023 "Excellent" Trustpilot reviews, despite Cap Group acknowledging it no longer had a corresponding Trustpilot rating. The company said it had since removed the claim while it reviewed the listing. It also ruled that the website's use of the wording "as seen on" alongside logos for Sky News, The Times, Daily Mail, GB News, Metro and The Telegraph was misleading.
