You may not agree with all his policies but Bank of England governor Mervyn King has been knighted for his role in steering the UK through the financial crisis.

Other business people knighted in the Queen's birthday honours list are Stagecoach founder Brian Souter, BG Group chief Frank Chapman and Standard Chartered Bank chairman John Peace. Meanwhile, Helen Alexander, the chairman of IFAonline's parent company Incisive Media and former president of the CBI, has been made a Dame.
