Election 2010: Surge for Lib Dems on household finances

The Liberal Democrats are enjoying a surge in voter confidence in their ability to improve household finances across Britain, according to a survey by Markit/YouGov.

With the General Election just weeks away on 6 May, nearly a quarter (23%) of people said Nick Clegg's party would do the best job for their finances in the 12 months after the Election. This is up from just 9% in mid-March. The Lib Dem gains came mostly from previously undecided respondents. However, the party still lags behind the Conservatives who were top on 26%, although this is a drop from the 29% recorded in mid-March.
