FOS to up case resolution rate to meet £20m budget jump

The financial ombudsman (FOS) proposes increasing its 2010/11 budget by almost £20m to resolve an extra 45,000 cases.

The FOS's current budget forecast for 2009/10 is £94.1m but it says it is seeking to raise £113.7m for 2010/11. In the FSA's regulatory fees and levies proposals for the upcoming financial year, it says the increase in income would be met through fees from a higher number of cases. It says it aims to resolve 210,000 cases in 2010/11 compared to a current forecast of 165,000 in 2009/10.
