FSA establishes financial capability role

The FSA has appointed Chris Pond as its first director of financial capability.

The FSA says the appointment reflects the growing importance of the national strategy for financial capability. Pond will join from his chief executive role for the National Council of One Parent Families in December. He previously worked as MP for Gravesham between 1997 and 2005 and held a Minister position at the Department for Work and Pensions between 2003 and 2005. He held the chair role at the Low Pay Unit between 1997 and 1999 and served on the FSA's working group on families in 2005 and the steering group on financial capability in 2006.
