Brown could delay Budget until April

The Government may delay the Budget until April as they evaluate a new economic stimulus plan, reports suggest.

The Evening Standard claims Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling are considering holding the budget announcement back until after the start of the new financial year in April. Its sources suggest ministers are seeking to delay the Budget, usually announced in March, while a new economic recovery package is assembled. A spokesperson for the Treasury says a date for the Budget has yet to be set, and could be revealed in March or April.
