Majority of UK blames bankers for economic meltdown

Over 80% of the UK population blames the banking industry for the credit crunch and the economic downturn, according to new research.

Datamonitor's Recession and Recovery research programme also found around 80% of respondents put equal blame on the government and regulators, including the Bank of England and FSA, in another blow to the incumbent Labour government. Approximately 64% of respondents believe the lack of regulation was symptomatic of political greed and part of a wider "feather your own nest" culture in British politics, although this finding may be skewed by the MPs' expenses furor.
