The changing employment landscape and its impact on saving for the future

Industry Voice: Scottish Widows pension expert Robert Cochran and economist Andrew Scott discuss the future of employment and income, in episode three of Scottish Widows' podcast series.

Labour markets are in the midst of a seismic shift. Self-employment is rising. Contractor employment is rising. More people than ever are working flexibly, in a booming ‘gig economy'. And, on top of all this, increased life expectancy is seeing people remain in employment for much longer too - even after they've taken retirement.

With such enormous shifts already happening, it might be difficult to imagine what other changes may lie further ahead for the employment landscape. Will reskilling become a near-necessity as people begin to outlive their careers? Will people even want a life-long career, if their new working life is to last 60 years or more? How can you make sustainable financial plans when so much is changing already, and likely to change even further in the future?

Scottish Widows' pension expert Robert Cochran tackles these issues with economist Andrew Scott, in episode three of Scottish Widows' podcast series. Click below for a podcast preview.
