For years, the cry of the advice profession has been the same: the good advisers shouldn't be punished for the sins of the bad. A couple of rotten apples have tarnished the profession's reputation for everyone. So instead of us all paying into the compensation pot for their mistakes, can't the miscreants just pick up the tab themselves? Now, such a ‘polluter pays' idea is under serious consideration, per an FCA consultation on reforms to FSCS funding. If only life was that easy. For a start, we're going to have to agree on who the polluters are. Let's take the Woodford saga as a case ...
