Does it really matter if you are a restricted or independent adviser? Richard Bertin asks and gives his take on this contentious issue...

I was an independent financial adviser, IFA, for a number of years and was proud to hold "independence" as a badge of honour. When our firm was acquired by a global family office, my allegiance switched. My pride was anchored around being part of a great firm, with strong values. My point is, I truly wonder whether customers care whether you are an IFA or restricted adviser.
