I think one of the biggest lessons I have learned during my career is that it is possible to bounce back from any knocks and bumps, so long as you learn from it and raise your game. Having graduated with a degree in economics, I began my career as a trainee accountant in 1985, but could not envisage myself staying long-term, so took advantage of the perk of a subsidised copy of the Financial Times to look for a new position.
