From the Editor: Reasons to love… life planning

I like financial life planners. I do.

Mainly because if I say my goal is to own a 200ft yacht by the time I’m 50, I expect one will cheerily map out how I might be able to do it, rather than laugh in my face. Of course, that doesn’t make it any more likely that I will own one (mine will have a heli-pad and missile defence system and everything), but it’ll make me happy, at least for a short while, until he or she shows me the sums, when I’ll probably cry and go and live in the woods for a bit.
