The Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA’s) consultation into simplified advice is expected to look to align trail commission with Consumer Duty rather than “switching off” the service completely.
As part of the FCA's consultation in March 2026, the regulator is looking to discuss the future of trail commission as it plans to "modernise the rules and to prevent potential consumer harm". As part of its simplified advice work, the regulator is gathering evidence to decide whether legacy trail commission still delivers good outcomes for consumers.
