The number of UK adults investing has risen from one in four adults in 2020 to one in three today, with an increasingly competitive investment platform landscape attracting a growing share of first-time investors.
According to Boring Money's tenth annual Online Investing Report, 13.4 million DIY investment accounts were open by the end of 2025 – a 19.2% increase year-on-year. DIY investment account numbers have increased almost fourfold from the 3.6 million in 2016, while 20% of UK adults now hold a Stocks and Shares ISA, up from 13% in 2020.
