Treasury Committee launches inquiry into student loans

‘This inquiry is about fairness’

The Treasury Committee is launching an inquiry into student loans and the broader taxation of graduates.

The committee said that it is aware that many graduates have become "intensely dissatisfied" with the terms of the loan. It noted that this dissatisfaction was amplified by the recent decision to freeze the threshold for repayments. Student loan threshold to be frozen from April 2027 Students now leave university with more than £50,000 in student loan debt, according to the Institute for Fiscal Studies.
