Farming minister Dame Angela Eagle has sought to quash rumours that the chancellor is likely to soften changes to incoming inheritance tax (IHT) rules for farmers in the upcoming Autumn Budget.
Quizzed on recent press speculation that the chancellor could look to tweak the impending regime by BBC Farming Today on Friday (17 October), Eagle said: "Despite some of the speculation in the press, there's no likelihood that that will happen. "The announcements have been made, and the situation will be as it was announced, but remember that three quarters of estates will continue to pay no inheritance tax at all, while the remaining quarter will pay half of the inheritance tax that most people pay."
