Confederation of British Industry (CBI) CEO Rain Newton-Smith has called on chancellor Rachel Reeves to take back the Labour party’s manifesto promise of not raising taxes for working people, The Guardian reports.

The Guardian reported yesterday (9 September) that Newton-Smith claimed that "the time for tinkering is over" and in an intervention before the Autumn Budget which has been confirmed to take place on 26 November. In Labour's pledge, Reeves and prime minister Keir Starmer stated that party is committed to sticking to its manifesto promise not to raise taxes on ‘working people', including through income tax, National Insurance (NI) and VAT.
