Former Bank of England (BoE) governor Mark Carney is set to be the next prime minister of Canada.

Liberal Party members selected Carney as next leader in the contest triggered by Justin Trudeau's January resignation. Carney secured more than 85.9% of the points in the Liberal Party leadership election. A total of 151,899 Canadian Liberal Party members voted. Canada's incoming prime minister Carney worked at Goldman Sachs for 13 years before bidding goodbye to the private sector. Prior to taking on the BoE governor role, which he held from July 2013 to March 2020 and was succeeded by Andrew Bailey, Carney was governor of the Bank of Canada.
