November started in fine style with the 2023 Women in Financial Advice Awards, mid-month saw a pensions-packed Autumn Statement and a busy four weeks was rounded off with the release of the much-anticipated Sustainability Disclosure Requirements and the regulator’s ‘polluter pays’ redress framework. Quite the month…

Policy watch… It seems counterintuitive to start a month in review with two super-recent policy announcements but that's how the cookie crumbles. Let's start with early morning news from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) on 29 November which outlined its plans to make investment advice firms hold capital reserves to make sure any future client redress is paid by them under a "polluter pays" model. It explained the plans would mean personal investment firms - aka investment advisers - would need to calculate their potential redress liabilities "at an early stage", then set aside ...
