Adviser's discrimination case against FCA thrown out over lack of evidence

An adviser who says they experienced “direct discrimination and disability discrimination” when applying to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for the authorisation of a new firm has had their case closed down by the Complaints Commissioner.

The case - published today (19 October) - concerns the attempt in April 2022 of an adviser working in a network to get authorisation for their own firm. The adviser launched a complaint to the FCA over their perceived treatment during the process, which was not upheld and which they escalated to the Complaints Commissioner in March. Since submitting for authorisation 18 months ago, commissioner Amerdeep Sohal noted in the case that the complainant felt the watchdog "does not promote equal opportunities" or allow British Asians "the same opportunity to grow and flourish" in the UK. ...
