Last year the FCA highlighted its concern that a large proportion of new customers are placed in ongoing advice arrangements, suggesting it may be a default option, rather than one justified by the consumer's circumstances. The regulator said: "When making decisions they perceive to be more complex, consumers indicated they wanted to receive one-off support. This suggests that consumers only want support for a specific decision, and do not believe they need regular ongoing support."
