Bank of England governor Mervyn King claimed a £26 senior railcard on expenses last year as part of a total bill of over £130,000.
A note on the expenses, said the Bank footed the bill for the card "as it provides a discount of a third on all business rail travel", the Telegraph reports. The average user saves £94 a year, according to the senior railcard website run by National Rail. King, who is paid a salary of £305,368, also put the £169.50 cost of a new passport under "accelerated processing" on expenses. A large portion of his costs relate to business travel.
