Gang jailed for £12m VAT scam

Four gang members have been handed prison sentences for helping to orchestrate a £12m VAT fraud.

Wayne Murden, Steven Hague, Peter Green and Russell Bakewell received sentences ranging from 12 to 20 months following guilty pleas at Bradord Crown Court. They admitted creating and operating an illegal network of car dealerships which they then used to steal the VAT duty on sales. Two other members of the gang, Reginald Turner and Tammy Copson from Walsall also pleaded guilty to the offences and will be sentenced at a later hearing, while leader Janye Mitchell has already received a ten-year sentence.
