Commons sets date for RDR debate

Ministers will debate the merits of the RDR in the House of Commons on 30 November, officials have today confirmed.

Ministers will use the three-hour slot for a full Parliamentary debate on the RDR, including the issues of grandfathering and the appropriateness of exams. MPs Harriet Baldwin MP and Mark Garnier MP pitched their plan for a detailed ministerial discussion of the rule changes to the backbench business committee earlier this month. The debate in two weeks time follows an initial half hour discussion on the RDR in the smaller Westminster Hall called by Baldwin last month, the first ever Parliamentary debate on the issue.
