'Tesco law' could lead to 'wild-west' will-writing

Will writing practices will become more unscrupulous, or even illegal, unless the Legal Services Act is amended before its implementation next year, law firm Moore Blatch says.

The Act, which is often referred to as Tesco's law, is intended to reform legal services and introduce greater competition in the UK when it comes into practice in October 2011. But Moore Blatch warns without stringent controls it could lead to a ‘wild west situation' in will writing, with unqualified and unregulated advisers undertaking complex legal work.
