Chris Hanks elected CII president

The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has elected Allianz Commercial general manager Chris Hanks as president, replacing Barry Smith.

He takes over from the chief executive officer of Fortis UK to become the 114th president of the CII. Elected as deputy-president alongside Hanks was Julian James, chief executive officer of Lockton International. The appointments were announced at the CII annual general meeting in London yesterday. Hanks says: "It's a great honour to take the presidency of the CII and particularly in the run up to the centenary of our Royal Charter in 2012.
