CFP numbers hit record high

The number of certified financial planners globally has broken through the 126,000 mark to reach a record high.

The Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB) says the number of CFP professionals reached an all-time high of 126,016 as of 31 December 2009, up 6.4% from 118,506 at year end 2008. It says, since the end of 2000, the number of CFP professionals has more than doubled and the number of non-profit organisations administrating CFP certification has grown from 12 to 23. The majority of CFPs (65,382) do business outside the United States, with member organisations from China and India both posting nearly 80% growth in the number of CFP professionals in 2009.
