Insurance industry will not suffer in BA strikes - ABI

The insurance industry is unlikely to take a massive hit from claims arising from the British Airways strike action, says the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

Few travel insurance policies cover against industrial action and even those which do may not pay out if the holiday was booked after the 2 Novemeber strike ballot announcement, the trade body says. Malcolm Tarling, of the ABI, says: "They should have 'assumed' a walkout would occur and not gone ahead with planning trips." The estimated one million BA holidaymakers who will be affected by the action between 22 December and 2 January now face the cost of buying tickets with rival airlines.
