Three million people relying on property to fund retirement

SOME 3.2 million people, or 7pc of UK adults, are relying on property investments to fund their retirement, according to research from Baring Asset Management.

The group speculated that this leaves people dangerously exposed to fluctuations in the UK property market and interest rate movements. The sample of 2,155 adults found that 10pc of 35-44 year olds are planning on retiring with the income they receive from property assets, compared with 8pc of 45-54 year olds and 6pc of 25-34 year olds. A further 33pc of UK adults – which would translate to 15.1 million people – were found to be not currently making any provision for their retirement. In particular, one in three 25-34 year olds said they did not have any kind of pension plan in place. ...
