UK REIT fund 'one step closer'

A FUND investing solely in UK REITs is a step closer to being launched after four more UK property companies converted to REIT status, property experts say.

Big Yellow, McKay Securities, Shaftesbury and Warner Estate Holdings all converted to REIT status on April 1, swelling the number of UK REITs from 9 to 13. This means the launch of a UK REIT-only fund could be on the cards as there are now enough REITs to invest within, as opposed to when there were only nine, according to Kim North, spokesperson for REITs awareness group Reita. "There are definitely opportunities for UK REIT-only funds now as with 13 funds there is enough diversification to launch them," she said.
