European Commission 'forgetting' investment issues, says EFAMA

The European Fund and Asset Management Association says proposals in the European Commission's Green Paper on investment fails to dent the key issues of creating a true single market in financial services.

According to EFAMA, the EC's paper entitled On the Enhancement of the EU Framework for Investment Funds does not tackle many of the issues which need to be addressed in occupational pensions, taxation as a barrier to a single market, and the global nature of the fund management industry. More specifically, there are taxation issues requiring change to create true cross-border trading which include onerous administrative requirements, taxation in the context of fund mergers and pooling, withholding taxes, and VAT, according to EFAMA.
